    Blowfish Edge SwampDogs

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish edged the Fayetteville SwampDogs Tuesday night 7-6 in Coastal Plain League Play. The win is the first for the Blowfish in four tries against the SwampDogs this season and snaps their four game losing streak. The Blowfish struck first in the third with four runs. With the bases loaded Graham Saiko singled up the middle and Joshua Miller followed with a two RBI single to right centerfield. The fourth run of the inning came on a Gabe Loweree sacrifice fly to left. The four runs would not be enough for the Blowfish as the SwampDogs quickly answered back with five runs of their own off of Blowfish starter Stuart Pound in the fourth to take a one run lead. Pound went five innings giving up five runs on ten hits while striking out four. The Blowfish tied the game at five in the sixth when Miller led the inning off with a double and later scored on a Todd Joyner sacrifice fly. They took the lead in the seventh when Michael Wilson scored on a wild pitch. The Blowfish scored their final run in the eighth when Todd Joyner singled to score Saiko. Jeff Kinley was excellent in relief for the Blowfish going four innings giving up an unearned run on three hits while striking out five. The SwampDogs scored their final run in the seventh inning. The Blowfish continue their four game road trip tomorrow night as they travel to Thomasville, North Carolina to face the HiToms at 7:00. The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far.
