Wingo Named CPL Hitter of the Week

Columbia 2B Scott Wingo has made a big impact with the Blowfish since signing with the team on July 9. Wingo had a monster week from July 12-18, earning recognition from the Coastal Plain League as co-Hitter of the Week.

The Coastal Plain League announced Thursday that Columbia's
Drew Wingo and Wade Moore of Forest City were named the Rawlings Co-Hitters of the Week, while Asheboro's Nathan Furr and Edenton's Todd Roth were tabbed Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week seven of action (July 13–July 18).

Wingo, a 5-11, 175-pound sophomore at South Carolina, started eight games on the week for the Blowfish and finished with a .600 average. Of his six hits,
he had one double and drove in one RBI. While he also scored six runs and
racked up seven total bases. Wingo went 2-for-2 on stolen bases and had a
700 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage on the week. He was
    also walked four times.

This season, Wingo has made nine appearances, all being starts for the
Blowfish. He is batting .385 after 26 at bats. He has helped Columbia by
hitting one double and knocking in two RBIs on his 10 hits. He is also a
    perfect 4-for-4 on stolen bases.

Wingo will be with the team Friday night as they take on the Wilmington Sharks at 7:05 pm at Capital City Stadium in Columbia. It will be College Night. A pair of students with IDs can get two tickets for the price of one.
