Two Blowfish Voted into CPL All-Star Game
Two Columbia Blowfish have been invited to the 2009 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game in Wilmington on Tuesday, July 21.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Christman (USC Sumter) has had a phenomenal summer for Columbia. In seven starts, Christman has given up just 9 runs on 26 hits in 43 innings for an ERA of 1.88. Christman also has 39 strikeouts. Opponents are only batting .173 against him.
Sophomore third baseman Matt Leeds (College of Charleston) leads the team in batting average (.289) and RBIs (23). Leeds has also hit 2 home runs and 7 doubles in 33 games. Matt is one of the Blowfish's key defensive players, with only one error all season.
Both players will be on the American team for Tuesday's game, which will be broadcast on the CPL Webpass at 7:05 pm.
The Columbia Blowfish are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 13th season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL is certified by Major League Baseball and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
