2013 Host Family Information

The Columbia Blowfish are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League (CPL), the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating it's 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 45 alums make their Major League debut thus far. For more information on the CPL, please visit the league website at www.coastalplain.com.

As mentioned above, the Blowfish players are housed with local host families. Below are our current host families personal accounts of housing players from the past years:

"You get to know and meet new people. We do it for our kids to experience the feeling of giving to others. It makes us feel good knowing we are providing a need for someone else and hopefully we will make a positive impression on them to carry with them throughout their lives. Our kids love having a big brother, if only for a few months. We are made to feel like one of the Blowfish family." -Bolton Family

"We have been doing this for the last 3 years, and have loved it. We have made good friends through the experience. When they are here we feel that they are part of our family. We do hear back from at least one of them who signed a major league contract." -Corbitt Family

"We've hosted the last 3 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. All of the players have been appreciative, well behaved and a lot of fun to have around. I would recommend being a host family to anyone who has an interest in supporting baseball in Columbia and who has the room to offer a collegiate player who gave up the summer to pursue a higher level of baseball." -Harris Family

Those interested in becoming a host family should be able to provide a bed, adequate space for the player to store his belongings, access to a bathroom and a spare key if you should not be home from the last week in May to mid-August. The players are required to live under your rules and to be a responsible member of your household. Outlined below are some guidelines that the Blowfish Baseball Club have set for players/host families; they can be amended as needed.

In return for housing a player, you and your family get FREE ADMISSION AND PARKING to all Blowfish home games and recognition at our HOST FAMILY APPRECIATION NIGHT  for our LAST SEASON at HISTORICAL CAPITAL CITY STADIUM.

If being a host family interests you or if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Kelly Evans, Assistant General Manager at 803-254-3474 or kelly@blowfishbaseball.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!
